All Hands on Deck

1 Peter 2:9 – But you are not like that, for you are a chosen people. You are royal priests, a holy nation, God’s very own possession. As a result, you can show others the goodness of God, for he called you out of the darkness into his wonderful light.

The Chicago Bears lost a pretty brutal game to the Raiders in London on Sunday.  I am not going to lie…it made me grumpy.  The strength of this years team is their defense.  Yet, if that defense doesn’t have every part functioning and doing what it’s intended to do…things can fall apart.  And on this Sunday the Bears lost one of the best run stopping defensive lineman in the NFL on the first drive of the game to a brutal arm injury.

Unable to effectively stop the run in his absence…other parts of the defense could not excel.  The Bears defense just wasn’t the same without all the parts working together…the result was a 24-21 loss to the Raiders!  Ugh!

As a church we are a body.  All different, all with roles…and to function effectively we need one another.  The world is bent on self…it’s all about me.  We (as Peter says) are not like that…we are a “people”…a team.  Our need to grow isn’t isolated to “me” it’s about the team.  May God reveal to us that He saved us to be a people…a community…that would display the goodness of God to a world in need.
