Brian Walter
Lead Minister
One Interesting Fact about Brian Walter.
I am an avid Cubs fan and throughout the course of a season can tell you by memory most of the statistics for the team (batting averages, earned run averages, hitting streaks, hitless innings pitched); I’m a little obsessive to say the least.  I can also remember random statistics during the course of games…I’ve always had the dream that if I wasn’t in ministry I could be a color commentator on the radio.
What do you do here at SMCC?
I am the lead minister at SMCC.  I preach, lead worship, and do some counseling.  I have the privilege to cast vision and serve alongside an outstanding and talented staff, and with a dedicated leadership.
How did you learn about Jesus?
I grew up in the church and learned about Jesus by watching my parents and being discipled by several wonderful Christian men and women along the way.  Yet, I’ve learned the most about Jesus as I’ve walked through life’s ups and especially its downs.  I’ve come to know personally that His promises are true and that He is a faithful Friend as He has led me through some dark times, and as I’ve celebrated with Him on the mountaintops.
Favorite Book?
Of course the Bible is on top!  But, by far, my favorite book(s) are the Hobbit and the Lord of the Rings Trilogy…well, I guess that’s five books, but oh well!  And other than the Bible, and those fiction books…my favorite non-fiction is a tie between Abba’s Child by Brennan Manning and “currently” A Million Miles in a Thousand Years by Donald Miller.  So, I guess that’s seven books…and…
Favorite Coffee?
Starbucks Dark Sumatra (black; no cream, no sugar)
You will never see me without…
Unfortunately…my iPhone.  It contains my calendar, my contacts, all my books, my Bible, my to-do list(s), I use it for email, and it’s where I play Plants vs. Zombies
Favorite Verse?
“I waited patiently for the Lord to help me, and he turned to me and heard my cry. He lifted me out of the pit of despair, out of the mud and the mire.  He set my feet on solid ground and steadied me as I walked along.  He has given me a new song to sing, a hymn of praise to our God.  Many will see what he has done and be amazed.  They will put their trust in the Lord.” Psalm 40:1-3 NLT
