Worth It All

“This was not worth it!”  Have you ever said that?  When I was a kid my stepmom and dad took my younger brother and I on vacation to Tennessee.  We had fun but by the time we were driving home we were all tired.  Still, my stepmom was determined to stop and see a waterfall that was supposedly just off the highway.  We drove for an hour and a half…my dad was mad…my brother and I were mad…and upon arrival…well, lets just say, “It was not worth the drive!”  The summer heat and lack of rainfall had taken this waterfall from picture worthy to…well, the waterfall could have been compared to the flow from a small garden hose.

Church, there will be plenty of things in life that cause us to declare, “This was not worth it!”  Jesus will never be one of those things.  Whatever we must give up, whatever grief we must bare, whatever ridicule we must endure…we gain infinitely more in Christ.

Philippians 3:7 – Whatever gain I had, I counted loss for the sake of Christ. Indeed I count everything as loss for the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord. For his sake I have suffered the loss of all things, and count them as refuse, in order that I might gain Christ.
